Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation

President’s Message

New President-Ellen Siegel

It is an honor to be of service to LCJC in my new role as President of the B.O.D. I plan to continue the excitement and energy created by the arrival of Rabbi Case last summer. This momentum has attracted others, and we now have exceeded our pre-pandemic membership numbers!

I am looking forward to leading our congregation with increased member participation. We are now focusing on adult education, creative social activities, and redesigned Shabbat and Holiday services. Our popular 2nd and 4th Friday night Shabbat Potlucks will remain untouched, but we may find other fun ways to dine together following services.

Members are sponsoring Saturday morning Oneg Shabbats, supplying Jewish traditional foods such as kugel and Israeli salad, along with an assortment of bagels, fixings and baked goods. However, we make certain to accommodate the Vegans among us! Rabbi Case continues to conduct lively weekly discussions based on his extensive knowledge of Torah, Talmud and the writings of other Hebrew sages. Our Book Group, Ladies’ Lunch, Game days, Jewish cooking classes, an introduction to Hebrew, and even building our own Sukkah are on the agenda.

In an era of worldwide growing antisemitism, we are blessed to be so welcome at Lakeside. We must ensure that a strong Jewish presence thrives and grows here. We need to honor all the generations before us who suffered or died simply because they were Jews. Don’t let this legacy end with us! Even if you don’t desire to attend religious services or social events, please SUPPORT US and BECOME MEMBERS. (Our dues are a fraction of what is customary North of the Border). We are the only English-speaking synagogue in Jalisco, and perhaps all of Mexico. Help us to be the center of Lakeside Jewish life.  Let’s celebrate Judaism together, in all its diversity, traditions, customs or none. Make Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation a home that can always offer any Jew an opportunity to participate in a welcoming, loving Jewish community.
