Death & Dying Workshop

All Right, All Ready, Get It Done! A Dying and Death Workshop for the Lakeside Jewish Community

Susana Greenberg is a recently retired geriatric nurse practitioner specializing in palliative and hospice care.  Elizabeth Katz did hospice work in a non-medical capacity.
Dates: Wednesday, February 20 AND Wednesday, February 27, 2019
Please do not register unless you can commit to both dates.
Time: 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Santa Margarita 113, Riberas.  Directions will be provided to those who register.
What You Will Learn:
On the 20th, Susana will answer the questions you’ve always wanted to ask about the dying process and care of the dying. She will also give you medical information designed to help you make the decisions necessary for an advance directive.  Elizabeth will explain why you need to be prepared for death in Mexico, and how to be prepared.  She will introduce you to the funeral home which is accustomed to serving the Jewish community and will explain the advantages of completing the post life registry at LCS.     You will have homework, with handouts to prepare you for the next session.
What You Will Then Do:
On the 27th, participants will break into groups of three or four to be “all right, all ready.”: Each group will help each other fill out the LCS post-life registry form, or update your old registry form; schedule when your group will go to LCS to submit the form; make appointments together with the funeral home to pre-plan disposition of your body, and all that goes along with your death; make appointments together to have a notario prepare your advance directive; and network with each other to help when dying, and upon death.  Learn how the Caring Bridge web site can help this network.
What to Bring:
Sorry, this is not a social event.  If you will need to eat or hydrate, please bring with you whatever you need. If you think you will want to take notes, bring pen and paper.  A cell or smart phone might come in handy at the second session for checking calendars, making calls for appointments, etc.
We are looking forward to seeing you, and helping each other accomplish what is surely one of the most important tasks at hand for people approaching the end of life, regardless of how much time you THINK you might have left.
